KUCHING, Dec 22: Teachers from both SK St Joseph and St Joseph’s Private Primary School were on hand this morning to witness the official handover of the St Joseph’s Primary School building along Jalan Were in Kuching to the Archbishop of Kuching, His Grace Simon Poh.
An official letter with the historic date of December 22, 2020 to designate the handing over was presented by Poh to the Education Department represented by Mr Richard Kawi, the Headmaster of SK St Joseph.
SK St Joseph stopped receiving Primary One students in 2015, and 2020 marks the last batch of Primary Six students studying in SK St Joseph. Over the years since 2015, St Joseph’s Private Primary School has been using parts of the building for their classes. The 2020 academic year ended late this year, that is, on December 18 due to multiple home-based learning caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also present were the chairperson of the Parent-Teacher Association of SK St Joseph, Encik Khairuddin bin Abdul Kadir, Senior Assistant of SK St Joseph, Cikgu Roseline Ak Rongi, Headmistress of St Joseph’s Private Primary School, Ms Shirley Chong, and the CEO of St Joseph’s Family of School, Mr Christopher Chua.
